Does Cleaning Your Carpets Prevent The Spread Of The Coronavirus?

Cleaning your carpets is a great way to maintain hygiene in your home and office environment. It is also an excellent way to keep the floor around you clean, relatively allergen free and promotes a healthy living space.

The coronavirus is spread by an infected person coughing or sneezing and coming in contact with another person or contact with any surface. The easiest surface (and by far the largest) that droplets from an infected person contact is the floor. If you have carpets that cover most of your home or office floor, then a steam clean with an approved carpet detergent is the best way to prevent the spread of this virus. The virus can survive from hours to several days, routine carpet cleaning is necessary.

According to the New South Wales Government Health website, preventative action is the best form of defence against the coronavirus. All hard surfaces can be cleaned with common household detergents if you suspect them of being contaminated. Use disposable cloths and equipment. Avoid using the same cloth on different surfaces.

Soft Surfaces like carpets, rugs, upholstery etc., should be steam cleaned and removable covers can be machine washed with a recommended fabric detergent.
